Midtown, New York City crime - do the locals think there is alot of crime in the neighborhood?

Yes and no. There's a lot of theft in Midtown. Granted, there are so many people on the street at any given time, it's kind of hard to get into a gang fight or commit triple homicide, but I wouldn't consider it the safest part of New York by any stretch of the imagination.
