"A lot going on..."
Baylands Park is a bit of an anomaly by comparison to most Bay Area parks, in that most people do not even know that it exists. It happens to be located right off of 237, and is actually visible from the highway, but is so tucked away that few people know about it.
It's not exactly Big Basin or Mission Peak, but it does have some stunning views of the east bay hills and San Jose, and is filled with walking, running, and bike trails, and has its fair share of playgrounds. There is even a ropes course that operates here for groups who decide to utilize it.
Given that it is on the bay, the strange weather patterns can be felt very acutely, and the fee that is associated with it March-November really doesn't get you THAT much, compared to some of the bigger state parks. But it is a nice little oasis in the middle of the valley, and remains relatively uncrowded for those who seek it out.
