"Montezuma is just above Keystone resort"
The town of Montezuma was founded as a mining town and now sits above the ski resort of Keystone on the upper Snake River at 10,200 feet. I have driven through and walked around the river and the few homes that make up this quiet community of only about 50 people. Most of the homes are classic Colorado cabin style and would be an amazing place to buy or rent if you wanted to be a ski bum for a season or if you worked at the resort. There are also historic buildings dating back to the 1800's in the area.
The roads and trails above Montezuma offers some of the best back country skiing, biking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and hiking trails in Summit County. The fields and forests in the summer are stunning and the solitude and beauty of winter make it a winter wonderland. The downfall is that the trails and roads get a lot of use and there have been some problems with parking and local residents.
For families living in Montezuma, kids would have to go into Dillon or Breckenridge to go to middle schools or high school making Montezuma a bit too remote for traditional schooling.
