"Location ruins this neighborhood"
Morris Heights is an older neighborhood of Aurora that is home to mostly single family homes. Many of these homes are smaller brick houses that have withstood the test of time. This would be an almost ideal neighborhood if it weren't for the location. Just on the west side of the neighborhood is a jail for the Denver Sheriff's Department. It's certainly an eyesore with it's razor wired fences and tall watch tower. Although this isn't a maximum security facility, it gives off a negative feeling and along the highway in this area are signs warning people to not to pick up hitch hikers. The neighborhood also borders Smith Road which is filled with warehouses and doesn't have a nice homey feel to it. The section of the neighborhood which is next to I-225 does have concrete blocks on the railing areas to help keep out the noise of traffic, but it doesn't get rid of all of it.
Some years ago I used to work in this neighborhood and it never felt quite safe to me. I always made sure to lock my doors and make sure I was aware of anyone near me when walking to my car.
There are a few restaurants along Peoria in this neighborhood, such as a Bennett's Bar-B-Que, a Chinese restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, and a few fast food places. There isn't any real shopping to speak of, but this area is located just a few blocks away from some excellent hospitals.
Overall, this area seems really run down to me, which is unfortunate because some of the houses are very cute and seem to be well maintained.
