"A gorgeous little area southwest of Denver"
Morrison is a great little town just southwest of Denver at the base of the Rocky Mountains. The only drawback to this area is that C-470 goes through it and can get busy. Other than that it is a beautiful area with gorgeous rock formations and a small town feel.
This is one of my kids favorite places to go as Dinosaur Ridge is here. Dinosaur Ridge is a natural landmark which is home to fossilized tracks made from dinosaurs millions of years ago. You can take a bus tour which makes several stops and only costs $4 or you can hike up the side of the mountain yourself. The 'hike' is on a paved road and is easy although it can be steep. Looking at the tracks is really like taking a trip back in time. They are fascinating to see and if you're interested in more information there is a visitor's center located at the base of the hill.
The kids also like to visit Tiny Town in Morrison. This little town was modeled after a real town, but only 1/6 the size. There are over 100 building to look at and peek inside, a playground, a train that goes around the park, a gift shop and a snack shop. This is a fun place for little ones to explore and have fun in. The cost is reasonable and you can take a picnic lunch and enjoy the beauty of the area.
As you go west in Morrison you go deeper into the mountain with a very nice, quiet and peaceful feeling to it. There are several excellent restaurants here including The Fort, which has a menu consisting of traditional items as well as local meat selections such as elk, antelope and bison. The prices are high but well worth it.
Morrison is right next to Red Rocks Amphitheater which has long been known as one of the best places for outdoor concerts in the country. Depending on the evening you can hear blues, jazz, rock, and everything in between.
The homes here are average to custom with a varying degree of price. Due to it's location and small town feel it is a typically safe and sound area, although there have been problems on occasion coming from the different concert venues.
