"Idyllic Beach Spot"
I am almost tempted not to write about this spot on here, because I want to keep it as quiet and peaceful as it already is. I came upon Moss Landing by happenstance, on a mission to find a sunset viewing spot on the beach where drinking wine was acceptable (not a state park). I happened to find the turnoff to Moss Landing and pulled over on the side of the road to walk over. There was exactly one other gentleman on the beach, and no one else for miles, in either direction. I could spot several homes but had no additional company.
The evenings there can get progressively chillier, and this is not exactly prime swimming weather (unless you bring your wetsuit), so grab a blanket if you plan to stick around. That said, this is the perfect romantic getaway or beach stroll, if you just need some time away from the city. It is a bit of a drive from Santa Cruz and even more of a commute from San Francisco, but is completely worth the commute for the peace and quiet that you will be rewarded with. It is the distance that makes it such a viable spot to visit, as it is far enough away that you will witness few Bay Area visitors.
As long as you don't plan on going for a dip, this spot is highly highly recommended.
