30 year old single male moving to Long Island, NY.

I am moving from DC to Long Island, NY in the next few weeks for work. I am not too familiar with NY. I will be working in Nassau County area. I would like to be as close to Manhattan as possible to enjoy the city, but also don't want a crazy commute out. Any thoughts on where I should be looking?
