New Mag Mile Restaurant: “Grami”
This new restaurant just recently opened in the Magnificent Mile neighborhood, in the space formerly occupied by the “Regal Beagle”. (I never went there and never heard any thing good about it.) “Grami” is actually located just east of the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Grand Avenue which runs UNDER Michigan Avenue. Anyway, I had the pleasure of attending a hospitality networking party there recently, which was a unique opportunity to get a look around the place and sample the fare. I was very impressed with both! The décor is what I would describe as a combination pub and “upscale sports bar”. Wall-mounted, big screen TVs abound, showing various sporting events. Along the walls you'll find rows and rows of comfortable booths for up to 4 people each. And one entire wall contains a traditional bar and seating. The center area is all bar-height tables and chairs.
Since its theme is primarily a sports bar, the menu is pretty much pub fare: appetizers, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and salads. Nothing terribly exotic – except maybe the “cheeseburger spring rolls” appetizers. I don't usually eat stuff like that but they were very tasty! Everything is surprisingly reasonably priced, considering the upscale neighborhood it's in! I highly recommend Grami and plan to visit again soon. It's a great spot, just off the beaten path of busy Michigan Avenue.
By the way, the name is a creative combination of “Grand” and “Michigan, the names of the two streets which comprise the nearest intersection. For more info, photos of the interior, and the fabulous menu go to www.gramichicago.com
