Yeah, they definitely don't have coyotes in the circus. It's kind of sad to hear that their being found here because it means they were starving where they live. And, they'll come down into the danger zone (where all the people are) if they're desperate enough.

It really is sad, @jenmac, all jokes aside. Hopefully some wildlife preservation efforts will help the coyote population to better survive on its own turf.

@Ajadedidealist: I hope you are right. If efforts are not taken to deal with the coyotes, they may become extinct, simply because they trudge areas that are dangerous for them to be in.

It is really sad, and I feel bad for them. BUT, man, coyotes are arrogant little beasts. I remember driving down Sunset Blvd and one walked in front of my car, stopped, and turned to glare at me as if to say, "do you mind?" I was taken a little aback. I mean, you're scary when I'm on foot but I could so kill you right now, you cocky bugger.

Someone told me it took a ton of cops to get that thing under wraps. I was like, uhhhh, why wouldn't they just call animal control? But I guess NYPD don't really have anything better to do - I've never seen any of New York's finest doing much.

@NeverSleeps; I agree with you regarding the police. They don't do much now, so they had to find something to occupy their time.

@JenMac: Oh, by the way, although your experience was a scary one, the way you described it is sort of funny in a way. I can just picture the coyote and the expression on his face.

@NeverSleeps I saw the whole chase on the news , the coyote was probably scared too but managed to evade the NYPD quite easily.

Is it wrong that I find the whole thing rather comical? It's certainly more heartwarming than tales of subway stabbings and fatal bullying - and the coyote got a happy-ish ending!

I agree, ajadedidealist! He got to cruise the streets of the big city for a day and go home unscathed!

Cops get such a bad rap. My stepfather was a homicide investigator all through my childhood. He was shot twice and stabbed in the chest. He blew out a knee chasing someone in a bust. I could go on and on.. . . and, he was constantly getting snide remarks about being a pig and sitting around doing nothing. There isn't a huge difference between people who do bad things and the people who catch them because cops have to think like criminals. So, there are a lot of bad apples. But, those have definitely spoiled the bunch and it's too bad because if something happens to you, they will still be the first person you call.

I can't believe this, but upon reflection, I've never met or spoken to a cop! Which is quite strange, really. (OK, I think I've gotten directions once or twice, but that's the full extent of it.) A good thing, I suppose, but still somewhat surprising
