Beaches Are Open This Weekend

After a semi-long winter and what seems a short spring, the beaches are officially going to be opened this weekend. In fact, this weekend unofficially marks the beginning of summer season as it will be Memorial Day.

So if you like the beach, go for it, for all will be open.

@hhusted NYC's beaches are traditionally opened on Memorial Day and stay open until Labor Day i.e. they have life guards on duty.. the beaches do stay open past Labor day but they just dont have life guards on duty.. are you going to head out to Robert Moses State Park this summer hhusted?

@Uptowngirl: Perhaps. Once I heal from surgery, I plan on going with my girlfriend. I am only going because she may wish to go, as I am not a beach person. I love the mountains though. Camping is my thing.

@Everyone we often talk about the lack of good beaches around NYC, ok so maybe they are not up to the Caribbean standards but the city does have a few good beaches where NYers head out when they want some fun in the sun but can't afford to take a summer vacation.

@Everyone we have often bemoaned the fact that NYC doesnt have great beaches but apparently we are mistaken for Dr Stephen Leatherman director of Florida International University's Laboratory for Coastal Research, a.k.a Dr. Beach, has just named Coopers Beach in Southhampton NY as the country's top beach in his annual list of best beaches! Maybe we need to make a trip out there soon

I don't know: I like Long Beach but I feel like the west coast beaches are just so much more "beachy" if that makes sense . . .

Long Beach seems to be too crowded. It must be a favorite to NYers. Robert Moses is less crowded.
