Louder music with warmer weather
Here in Bushwick, people aren't shy about blasting music - be it from the booming systems in their cars or the speakers they've lugged onto the sidewalk in front of their homes (and down the block from me) - but I've noticed there is a lot more of this going on now that people actually want to be outside. Has anyone else noticed this trend in their neighborhood? It's kind of driving me insane as I don't want to listen to Daddy Yankee and Marc Anthony all day.

Definitely true in Crown Heights. Though one of my neighbors seems to be a fantastic guitarist, and every once in a while he'll set up his little amp on the stoop or in the backyard and play a set. He's really good! It's a pleasure when he decides to do an unexpected concert on a lazy evening. I think I lucked out with him, otherwise it would be Marc Anthony around here as well.

@DBlack Really? Crown Heights definitely comes across as more of a Biggie neighborhood.

@BroadwayBK Yeah, true, Biggie's way bigger around here. I wasn't focusing on the nuances, just on the loudness of the music. Wu Tang Clan is big too. One crazy guy on the corner is always blasting Billie Holiday.

@Everyone my apartment faces the FDR and I tend to leave my windows open all day albeit with the mosquito guards in place and ever so often a car passes by with blaring music can't identify all the sounds but that's the biggest indication that summer is truly here for its awfully quiet during the winter months.

@BroadwayBK: Now you know what I went through when living in the Bronx. The only difference is I had to listen to hip-hop and Hispanic music all day. It got on my nerves. Where I live now it is rather quiet except for an occasion noise from a neighbor.

I ad this neighborone that blared her music whenever she was cleaning. Which happened to be for long periods of time every single day and night. I had a hard time hearing my television. I actually had it all the way up once just to watch "Eye For An Eye". The land lord kicked her out after she just up and left one day. She didn't return. But her stuff was there for two months.

Oh, and I hate that hispanic hip-hop. What is that? All I hear is the same beat but different lyrics for each song.

@hhusted Hip-hop and Hispanic music is exactly what I listen to all day.
@everyone Interesting how the warmer weather makes everyone turn up those volume knobs. And roll down the windows, of course.

@BroadwayBK and Everyone: Hey, get 'em back and play AC/DC and the classics. Man, I played my some Nickleback the other day to drown out the horrible music I was hearing. Or if you're really wanting to get 'em and you're willing to undure the ache in your ears, play Marilyn Manson.
Even better play some of that old time music like from the movie As Good As I Gets.
Ha ha oh, I'm making myself smile.

@Freyja Occasionally I hear someone on my block playing really loud emo music - like Fall Out Boy and whatnot. Pretty sure it's a teenager. But I think my sweetest revenge is just popping in some headphones and listening to something good. Take that, neighbors and drivers!
@everyone There is someone who can play the saxophone really well on my block and he/she has been practicing more and more lately - I guess summer is bringing out the music in him/her as well. So it's not all bad.

@Freyja4: Hey, I like your style. I should have thought about that when living in the Bronx. Maybe next time I am living with a situation like loud music, I'll just pay them back with music they don't want to hear.

My street is pretty dead silent most of the time...but since summer began, I do hear the occasional weekend fiesta going on next door or the occasional booming car system. So I've noticed this trend, but it hasn't been all that bad down in my neck of Brooklyn.

@hhusted and everybody: Yeah, I have thistiny surround system and you don't even have to turn it up much for it to be loud.

My neighb is pretty silent. There's really not a lot of errant music on my street in particular. . . but my downstairs neighbor often wails on her piano and I actually really enjoy that.

@NeverSleeps and @JenMac: Count your blessings. Some people have to live with noise pollution. When I lived in the Bronx, i had to call the police daily. They claim it was a quality of life issue.

I'm in Tbilisi right now and just heard Georgian reggae playing near the lake where I was going swimming. What a strange combination of cultures that was...

Swimming! Okay, someone has to tell me where the decent beaches are again... I hear Manhattan Beach and Rockaway are okay. What do you guys hear about Long Island? I know we had a forum about this a while back...

@uptowngirl @JenMac Thanks, I'm on it! Though it was pretty cool today for beach-going... not that I'm complaining about this gorgeous weather.
@hhusted There's not much else to say besides it's an ongoing problem here in Bushwick, BK. I'm beginning to wonder if and when I can report my neighbors for noise pollution. : D

@BroadwayBK: You're a lucky one. If you do not hear that much music, then you are in a decent neighborhood. The neighborhood I live in is pretty much quiet to.
