One more thing I'll be looking for....
I mentioned in a previous post that a friend and I would be visiting New York, and I am also looking for one more thing...
I LOVE micro breweries.. Are there any really good, but underknwon breweries floating around NYC anywhere?

Micro breweries in the city are hard because a lot of times, places claim to be one and then they have like 5 beers on tap. Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg is pretty cool and they do tours and tastings on the weekends. My favorite place to go for beer in the city is Spuyten Deyvil. It's off the Lorimer stop in Willy. They have a beautiful back patio and they have so many beers that it's really overwhelming. But, the staff is really helpful and lets you try a few to see if it's what you're looking for.

Sorry I'm so ignorant but....microbreweries are places where they brew the beer on site? Brooklyn has a few of those, doesn't it?

I am with JenMac on Brooklyn Brewery!
And here's a recent article on some microbreweries in BK: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2812884/brooklyn_new_york_microbreweries.html

@Basic aside from the Brooklyn Brewery which is NYC' s most reputed microbrewery, the city also has the Chelsea Brewery Company which is located next to Chelsea Piers and offers a selection of 20 of its own brews along with gorgeous views of the Hudson River

Wow, I never knew much about microbreweries, but they sure sound interesting. I don't really like the taste of beer, but this sounds better than the bottled stuff I've tried in the past! Maybe it's worth another look. Or taste, perhaps, is the better phrase.

I will HAVE to take a look at some of those breweries :) Chelsea actually looks pretty cool (and typical of a west coast style brewery)....

I have a friend who lives in Chicago and she swears by the microbreweries/brewery scene there. Do you guys know if Chicago is supposed to be "the best" for that sort of thing?

@ajadedidealist I only recently got used to the taste of beer enough to actually enjoy it. My taste buds must be dying off in mass quantities...

Anyone ever been to Radegast Hall & Beirgarten in Billyburg? Not a microbrewery, but I hear it's good stuff, awesome food.

I've be to Radegast a bunch of times and it is always good fun. The long communal tables make it easy to talk to other groups, they have this great sausage and burger booth in the back and the last time I was there, they were rocking Leonard Cohen!

@JenMac Whoa, sausage and Leonard Cohen? Only in Williamsburg. They should hang a sign over the Bedford L stop that says "Welcome to Williamburg:eat sausage whilst listening to Leonard Cohen."

Haha, that's funny, @BroadwayBK. We should come up with slogans for all neighborhoods!
