Rubber Rooms Closed

They're closing those freaky rubber rooms. A while ago someone on the forums had alerted me to their existence, and now it looks like they're on their way out:

I guess that means they are actually going to deal with problems instead of putting them off for months?

Ahhh... I think I brought this up in another forum? I wonder what they are going to do instead... I think the reason they existed in the first place is so that the district would not cross the teachers' union.

A lot of the teachers in the article deny allegations made against them; the story I heard on This American Life talked about how many teachers didn't even know why they were sent there at all. I'm glad they're getting rid of them, it seems like a really convenient option for administrators who want to get rid of teachers. Also: if a teacher deserves to be fired, they should be fired rather than get to sit in a trailer and do nothing and still be paid!

The rubber rooms sound like a real purgatory and it would be good if getting rid of them means they'll actually deal with problems rather than pay people to sit around doing nothing. Then there's the teacher in the rubber room who has been accused of corporal punishment repeatedly and who denies all allegations. You have to wonder what's going on there. Maybe once or twice the back of her had "slips" and smacks into a kid or two, but repeatedly? Sounds like they want to get rid of her but for whatever political or administrative reasons can't.

Anyone see the law and order finale? It was all about these rubber rooms...
