Shopping on 5th Ave in Park Slope
Has anyone been shopping on the other 5th ave? It's supposed to be really beautiful and have a lot of great boutiques; but I haven't had the chance to check it out yet!

@JenMac I havent really shopped along 5th Avenue in Park Slope but I have been to a fantastic lifestyle store called Artesana Home on 7th Avenue in Park Slope where you can buy gorgeous jewelry and artifacts like Mexican mirrors, Balinese Buddhas sourced from all over the world. A true treasure trove of delights.

@JenMac: Sorry. I haven't been there. I don't venture out of Manhattan very long, and when I do, it is usually to Long Island.

It is beautiful and it's not just Fifth that has a lot of shopping... you should check out 7th Ave as well.

What are your favorite stores, NeverSleeps? I want to go as soon as it gets warmer and I want to make sure I hit all the goodies.

That Artesana home sounds like ABC Fabrics/Home, a now-defunct but thoroughly excellent furniture/lifestyle store in Union Square that I really miss. It had the most gorgeous, albeit expensive, Eastern-style furniture.

The boutiques down there sort of remind me of the ones in Soho - little shops sparsely filled with expensive clothing.

Haha. I hate boutiques that consist of a blank, white, huge room and maybe one or two products. Elegant or not, you just KNOW the price of the one or two products alone what keeps the store paying its rent...It just seems so pretentious!

@ajadedidealist Artesana does have some expensive stuff but the Bali Buddha that I bought there cost me only $30 and its really beautiful. Well worth the price I think but then I have never been to Bali so it maybe grossly over priced :).

@JenMac Hmmm... that's hard because I usually just stroll and go in whichever shop has the best window display. Some of those stores are ridiculously expensive, so I have to just turn and walk away before I do anything stupid.
But I think the thing to check out in Park Slope is the vintage selection.
I stop by the Beacon's closet on 5th pretty regularly, but it's smaller than the one in Williamsburg, so it's really hit or miss. But they have some essentials that I like to pick up, like tights. But you don't care - you have a better one in your hood.
Bird on 5th Ave and 2nd is pretty cool - they have clothes, shoes, accessories, and it's actually affordable. So definitely check that out.
And then, my favorite: The Odd Twin. It's on 5th between Douglass St & Degraw St., and they have every vintage item you could want - for both men and women.
There are a lot more stores in the area, so it's definitely worth it to take a stroll through the area when the weather is nice.

@BroadwayBK I know. But I tend to avoid boutiques altogether - I just would rather spend my money in a more economical way. I think the real appeal of Park Slope shopping is the vintage stuff.
