Which "Working-Poor" Bill Best Suits NY?
Mayor Bloomberg and the City Council have been in debate over two bills that are wanting to help the "working-poor" one gives employees five days paid sick leave and the other has building owners paying their building maintenance workers an industry wage.
Bloomberg doesn't seem to like the paid sick leave.
As I see it, both bills could help people. If I were to choose however, I would go with the paid sick leave. My reason being that when I was pregnant late last year, I came down with the H1N1. Don't worry, I'm okay and my baby didn't seem to be affected by it at all. While I was sick, I could have used that five day sick leave pay. Though I was out for two weeks. Money is money right now. I got a job so that I could help my husband with bills. Unfortunately, I was fired for being pregnant. The matter still remains the same for me, I would want paid sick leave, even if I still had the job in maintenance like I had from a few years back.
What would you pick and why? Do you think their are benefits for both bills? Which one do you think would have a better chance at being passed?
These bills have yet to be voted on.
