Why does it always rain on Sunday?

@neversleeps: I'm seriously starting to wonder about that! I need to find a mojo lady and get this crap cleaned up, stat! If anyone has any recommendations, I am all ears.

Speaking of rain, it's been crazy the last couple of days. Hawaii style downpour happened yesterday for 20 minutes and then it was perfect again. It was pretty cool.

@Everybody: Weather patterns are not consistent and change on a second basis. As for Sunday weather, that is a matter of coincidence. I remember last summer we had 14 straight weekends of inclement weather. So who knows.

@Ajadedidealist: I think thunderstorms are cool. I mowed a lawn in a thunderstorm once.

I just got into LA yesterday and I was so excited for some sand in my mimosa situations and it's freezing here!! Man, it's like this crap follows me!

@BroadwayBK I just learned this trick on the internet.. my husband wears white undershirts which get stains and we used to use shout on them before we chucked them into the washer but the advice on the net says this seals the stains rather than eliminating them and suggests that you should rinse the stains in cold water before throwing them in, have been adopting this strategy lately and it works!

@Uptowngirl: Does this include yellow stains under the arms?

I use these "stain devils" spot remover formulas made by Carbona. #9 is for perspiration. They work well, especially on whites. But I'd say be careful using them on colors. I left the formula on longer than the recommended time and discolored an expensive shirt and jacket.

@NeverSleeps I havent really used it in years but my dad and mother in law swear by it .. in India they do massages with coconut oil and then have a bath for its said to moisturize the skin similarly they heat a bit of coconut oil and massage it into the hair before washing it. This practice is especially popular in the southern Indian state of Kerala where women usually have long , lustrous tresses so it definitely seems to work. Keralites are big consumers of coconut oil and tend to use it for cooking as well and surprisingly they have lower rates of heart disease than the rest of the population even though coconut oil is believed to be highly artery-clogging.

I was in a drugstore recently and noticed that most of the products made especially for African American womens' hair tout coconut oil as the main ingredient. I remembered this thread and was tempted to try one of them. Do you think it just wouldn't work on my thin, white girl's hair? If coconut oil is so good for all hair, why is it relegated to this specialty market and why isn't it mainstream?

Actually, I use "African American" products on my hair all the time - and I'm a blonde white girl - and they work best! Granted, I have an enormous blonde curly mess some might term a "Jewfro"...

Weeell, then, I'm about to head over to the African American section of the hair treatment products and I can't believe I've been missing out all this time...

@Uraniumfish please go ahead and use coconut oil based shampoos and conditioners but go easy on the serums as they can be quite heavy for thin, straight hair which I too have ..also I think its relegated to the side aisles in mainstream drugstores because I think most Americans would be repulsed by the smell of coconut oil not so in countries like India and Sri Lanka where people many actually go out and about with oil in their hair which they use as an alternative for gel/ hair spray. If you ever do venture out to Queens or even to some of the big South Asian groceries in the East Village you will get to see a whole range of oils which are infused with natural herbs which are a big hit with South Asians. In fact Neem ( a kind of plant)had been used as a vital ingredient in Indian skin and hair care long before Christy Turlington made it fashionable with her Sundari brand of natural cosmetics.

Speaking of African American hair products: you guys have to try Cholesterol. My hair genius lady recommended it to me for a deep conditioner and it is fantastic. I, too, have fine white lady hair. . . wavy .. but fine. It doesn't weigh it down.
