Noe Valley, San Francisco - good neighborhood for families with kids?

Noe Valley is known as one of San Francisco's most family oriented neighborhoods, appealing especially to younger parents. Unfortunately the at the middle and high school levels the school system is a bit underwhelming so I would definitely consider private school if you can afford it.
