"Popular Close-In Portland Neighborhood"
The neighborhood of Northwest Portland offers easy access to downtown and the Pearl District, and has historically been very popular. It's easy to commute from NW Portland elsewhere in the city. Parking can be tough, so taking public transit to get here is a very good option.
Those looking to move here will find many beautiful, mid-sized older homes, along with apartments and condos, mostly in older buildings with a few newly constructed buildings mixed in. Rent tends to be very expensive here. Residents range from upper-middle-class professionals who can afford the nicer homes to college students in tiny studio apartments.
If you're looking for apartments, don't be surprised to see some advertised as the 'Alphabet District,' though you're not likely to hear the name elsewhere. This official name for the district comes from the fact that the streets run alphabetically in the Northwest, from Burnside to Wilson Street.
Most of the shops and restaurants can be found along NW 23rd and 21st. You'll find lots of great bars and trendy shops, along with a Trader Joe's and Cinema 21, a popular artsy movie theater. The area around 23rd avenue is known as Nob Hill. These areas are very trendy, and you'll see plenty of hipsters and college kids hanging out here during the day.

"Very Desirable"
This is one of the more desirable areas of Portland. It's filled with incredible, eclectic shops, great restaurants and an active night scene. The homes in this area are either very nice yet older characater homes and apartments or modern, sleek condos. This area is very close to downtown, so you can rely on the public transportation, your bike or even walk. NW 23rd is very popular for shopping so if you hear someone say, "I'm going to shop on 23" this is what they mean. There are a few streets that are a bit run down and a little sketchy, but overall, this is the place to live if you are single, just married, retired and want to live in the middle of it all while enjoying some of the best entertainment and shopping that Portland has to offer.

"Northwest Portland- Relax and enjoy"
Ah! Northwest Portland. This is truly the place to be. If you have the bucks to spend, I highly recommend moving into this neighborhood. It is full of fantastic restaurants, cool bars, and interesting shops. Needless to say, there are some gorgeous homes that will make you feel as though you are somewhere very special! Plus, you are just a stones throw from downtown Portland and all the activities that it has to offer. The transportation in this part of town is outstanding too as you can easily take the bus or streetcar. But there is a lot to do in Northwest Portland including a cute little movie theatre called Cinema 21, a McMenamin's pub, and a lot of trendy stores to shop in.
There are a few small negatives to point out. First of all, again, prepare to spend as the prices in Northwest Portland can be high. Also since there are bars and a few clubs, certain parts of this area can be noisy on weekends. You also won't always find street parking to be extremely easy, so I would recommend getting a place that includes its own parking spot.
