"Affordable Oaks"
North of Loop 610, and near Hwy 290 is where you will find the neighborly area of Oak Forest/Garden Oaks. Many residents have lived for decades in this subdivision, which is the third largest in Harris County. This area is well established and has a variety of grocery stores and strip centers that are accessible by foot. Most of the homes here are dated and on the small side, but that doesn’t seem to bother the many retirees that reside in Oak Forest.
Although commercial development has taken over some of the area, you will still find community involvement at nearby parks and libraries. A short commute to Hwy 290 will open a doorway to a wide array of shopping, entertainment, and dining. Crime has increased in this area over the past decade, but is still on the lighter side compared to some other Houston neighborhoods. If you are looking for affordable housing in a single family home with a yard or at a convenient apartment complex, Oak Forest may be right for you.
