"Beautiful Community in North East Glendale at the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains"
Oakmont is a beautiful community located in the North East section of Glendale at the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains. The community is surrounded by the Glendale Freeway on the South, Foothills Freeway on the East and La Tuna Canyon to the North.
The community is mostly known for the gorgeous Oakmont Country Club and surrounding community. The homes are situated in the hills with great views. Most are large (given LA avg. home sizes) and are expensive. When writing this review prices ranged from $550,000 to $1 million. Rentals are plentiful compared to properties for sale, and ranged from $1,800 for a 1 br to over $8,000 for a 3500 square foot home.
The community is out of the way and has a nice upscale suburban feel.

"Nice Rich Family Hills, Snooty Country Club"
Oakmont is a rich residential neighborhood tucked away against the northeast corner of Brand Park. Million dollar homes and executives earning six figure incomes have set down roots in this hillside neighborhood, the vast majority owning their homes with only a handful of renters. The homes are of the larger variety for the most part with six or more rooms. They are mostly flat, one story Mission Revival style homes large though not really mansions—this is not the hills of Brentwood, but it is still very nice and clean if not a bit boring. The views are mostly of the valley and the chaparral filled hills of Brand Park. It all has a very well-kept 1980s sort of a feel to it. Most families have lived here for a generation.
Besides the woody residences and sprawling nature reserve like park to the east, the Oakmont Country Club and Golf Course dominates the area. It is a very exclusive and well-regarded country club—more than a little on the snooty side from what I have heard. The facilities are excellent for weddings, although you have to be a member in order to hold your ceremony there. For something a little more open, hidden up in the hill you will find Oakmont View Park, a little green space great for setting the kids loose or taking in some tennis with friends, and virtually unknown by non-Oakmont residents.
The elementary school for the area, Fremont Elementary, is really outstanding, loved by local parents and with excellent test scores, but two of five kids in Oakmont are sent to private school instead.
Put simply, this is one of those very nice hillside neighborhoods, insulated from the problems of the larger metropolitan area by its location and income barriers—boring in the way that is perfect for raising a family without hassles.
