"Home to Portland International Airport"

Parkrose, otherwise known as home to Portland International Airport, is located in East Portland and is approximately a 15-minute drive to downtown Portland though there is excellent public transportation into the city.

Known as family friendly because of affordable housing, this neighborhood has plenty of shopping, including the very popular IKEA that opened up a few years ago. Homes here are older and include a mix of ranch, bungalows, traditional and even modern. Many neighborhoods are well cared for while others are a bit run down.

The airport noise may turn some people away from this community, but for others, it is a good place to buy their first home. If you travel more than you are in Portland, this may be a convenient location to live as there are also apartments and house rentals.

Be sure and check out the Senn’s Dairy Park that is all native landscape and includes areas for picnicking, walking and community garden plots.

"Near the Airport- So Watch Out for Noise!"

The Parkrose Neighborhood is in East Portland near the airport. Just a few blocks north is the river, and, in fact, this area is very close to Washington State. You can find some very low home prices in Parkrose. After all, it isn't necessarily too convenient for those who work downtown. Also while there are some businesses in this area, residents won't find that there is too much in the way of entertainment. Therefore, it will be necessary to constantly get into the car unless you are really a dedicated biker.

There tends to be some crime, especially along Sandy Blvd. In addition to car thefts and robberies, there have even been some assaults. While Parkrose isn't truly dangerous, it makes sense to be careful. There is lots of accessible shopping right at the area. In fact, Portland's airport has somewhat of an outdoor mall complete with restaurants, an Ikea, Target and a Best Buy.

Parkrose does have some unique fixtures, for example, Senn's Community Garden. This community garden is a nice place to grow fruits and vegetables. There is also Senn's Dairy Park, which offers a decent size playground and picnics. In general, however, residents will find that Parkrose doesn't offer the greenery that many other Portland areas are so famous for.

"Residential Neighborhood Next to the Airport"

East Portland's Parkrose neighborhood was once a small farming suburb, but now it is anything but. With major roads and proximity to the airport, it is a busy residential neighborhood.

The Parkrose neighborhood is home to Portland International Airport, which means that parts can be loud and filled with traffic. Look for a house south of Sandy Boulevard, which runs through the center of the neighborhood, if you want a little more peace and quiet. I-205 and I-84, along with several other busy roads, also run through the neighborhood.

On the plus side, you're close to shopping and other businesses, making living here convenient. Parts of the neighborhood also have a very family-friendly feel, particularly near the community garden or Senn's Dairy Park, a nice smaller park with a newer playground. This is definitely a neighborhood whose character changes block by block.

Homes here tend to be affordable because of their proximity to the airport and also because of the distance between Parkrose and the city center. It's not ideal if you're looking for peace and quiet, but if you want easy access to amenities – and especially if you take public transportation to get there – Parkrose might be a good compromise.
