In Philly, the city IS the outing. From Fairmount Park to Center City, there are tons of activities for younger and older families. The city is filled with attractions for young and old, with glances into Philadelphia's history and the institutions that forge a path for the city's future.
The Japanese House in Fairmount Park is beautiful. The area is full with cherry and apple blossoms, plum and dogwood. Stepping stones lead to a gorgeous pond filled with orange and gold koi fish. You are taken through the different houses and taught about Japanese culture through the centuries.
Penn Treaty is a wonderful playground/park right on the waterfront. This open space families use to picnic and play. This portion of Fairmount Park has different events throughout the year. The cool part about this area is when the tide goes out you can actually walk further out onto the rocks, and it seems like you're in the Delaware River. Kids use this area for skipping rocks before the tide comes back in.
City Tours go on by different vendors throughout the city. Taking a tour can allow you to find some hidden gems in Philadelphia. There are walking tours, Ride The Duck tour, and there are a couple of tours that use Segways. Each allows you to take in different aspects of Philadelphia and gives you a feeling of breathing in new parts of the city.
Summertime is the greatest part of the year in Philadelphia for many reasons. Not only are we the city to be in for the 4th of July Welcome Home Celebration, but Philly has some awesome events. There are bazaars, cultural festivals, discount adventures and much more in the summer months in the city. Perfect for family outings.
This city has too much culture and too much history to never have anything to do. There is always something new for the family to take it and it is always well worth the trips.
