Is Poughkeepsie still the economic center of the region?

I'd say so. Poughkeepsie has such a relatively large population (around 75,000) that they have more shopping options, schools, restaurants, bars and more to keep others employed. Even many people who don't live in Poughkeepsie commute here every day and flood the area with money.
