Bay Area Dating Sites
Last night I had 1 of the dullest dates ever. starbucks and movie. with all the places to take a gal on a 1st date u would think a guy could come up w/ somewhere better than your average middle schooler
so i m wondering what are some good places to take some one on a 1st date--as advice 4 the dating challenged--like Mr Not-Even-Close from last night.

i'll start. first starbucks is always a bad idea--i've already posted a list of great Berkeley Coffee Houses, but all over the city and the whole Bay Area there r great coffee shops--choose 1 of them. and the coffee shop visit is good for after the event--when the ice has been broken, etc.

second, a movie doesnt' show much imagination. i mean we're all dressed up and hear we r in theatre filled with annoying suburban teeny boppers--ick!
at least take me to a better theatre--Like the Grand Lake in Oakland by Lake Merrit

Okay, so here are some ideas. First all, Mr. NEC should have taken you west of the Caldecutt. Perhaps dinner at Chez Panise, an evening at the Berkeley Rep and then coffee with the post theatre crowd at Au Quecolet (sp)?

Last night that would have been the play "Girl Friend".

i would trade in Panisse (that's the spelling, i think) 4 the Blue Nile Up on telegraph. we could walk and talk--a much better way to get to know someone--lot's Berkeley stuff to stimulate conversation rather than complain about teeny boppers.
also, the weather was great last night. i miss berekeley in the spring

I regret to inform you, but the Blue Nile on Telegraph is gone. A victim of the downturn maybe. You would have to go to the old south Berkeley location the authentic faux bamboo feel of Berkeley Ethiopian cuisine.

Okay, so here is one for the city. Teatro Zanzinni followed by Coffee at the Fifties coffee shop right across the street. It's all just out of reach of the annoying touristy area of Fisherman's wharf.

Teatro Zanzinni is that place where they have a Cirque du Soleil sort of a performance?

Yeah. And the meal is pretty good as well.

Here's one for an all day date with someone from out of town: you start off with the usual Fisherman's Wharf sort of tourist trap stuff if they insist on it (alternatively, you can go to the D Young and the Gardens) Then dinner at the Stinking Rose on Columbus, followed by either the a play at the ACT or a night at the SF Opera. If you put them up at the Mandarin, that would be a great place for night caps. (Of course, you would also have to have the means for this kind of nightly entertaint.)
That's my proverbial two cents, any way.

Thanks Doc--those r great. I love those restaurants on Columbus--though I'm not sure how well garlic goes with a first date.

Let's see. Last night the AMC had the musical Beautiful Child based on the music of Rufus Wainwright. About runaways on the railroad at the turn of the last century.

Ugh! Not my cup of tea. What do we got at the SF Opera?

Looks like its some kind of benefit gala or something (no doubt to help increse funds given the economic down turn). The next actual performance seems to be on June 5 with Faust.

Well, I guess the Opera would have been out. Just as well. i'm not really an opera sort of gal. i could barely sit through the nutcracker when Moma Flower took me (I was 9, i think).

Faust is exquisite when done well; although it is true that opera is an acquired taste.

Hope you don't mind me injecting a bit of reality, but with these kinds of Super Dates, I don't think most guys would be able to go out more than once a year in these economic times. Maybe we should consider some more economically constrained forays.

@ Doc: You're right about the Opera. I've never really gotten into it, but the archetecture of the SF Opera House makes it worht the experience regardless of what you are seeing. Same with the AMC's theater on Geary.

Ok, we'll give up on the Super Dates and consider Cheap Thrills n a sec. First, let's figure out where i might have gone last night if Mr. Dudd had been Mr. Big Bucks and Creativity. What was at the Fillmore last night, Owl? (i know, i could look it up myself, but since you seem so handy so far...)

I couldn't find what was at the Filmore last night but the next concert is Wed. A group called Frightened Rabbit. I such an Old Geyser that I am more likely to go see White Rabbit performed at the Filmore than Frightened Rabbit.
Have you heard of them, Flowergirl?

The other day a guy from my work took me to this place on Pier 42 where you looked right out onto the Bay. You could see the twinkling lights from the bridge and the restaurant was dimly lit so it was really nice. I know you locals are all jaded by the Fisherman's Wharf, but to someone new in town it is really cool!
