"Where Somers goes to shop..."
Baldwin Place is a residential hamlet in the town of Somers, population 20,000. It occupies the northwestern part of the town around Route 6, which is one of the main roads leading from Putnam County to northern Westchester.
The Somers Commons shopping center is the hamlet’s retail hub. The Commons is anchored by a large Stop and Shop grocery store, the largest in the town. There is also a New York Sports Club, a few eateries, Home Goods, and a Goodwill store. With the exception of a few other small shopping areas, there is minimal retail in Somers. However, nearby towns have enough to make up for what Somers lacks. Residents generally prefer to travel a little to shop because they value open space and quiet.
The Mews at Baldwin Place opened last year on 5.7 acres next to Somers Commons. It is an affordable community for seniors with 72 one-bedroom units. Rents are based on income and vary as a result.
Many years ago, there was a Baldwin Place train station on the Putnam line. Today, the station is gone and the tracks have been replaced with the Putnam/North Country Trailway. A large portion of the trail winds through Somers, giving residents a safe and scenic route for walking, running and biking. Residents of Baldwin Place will find additional recreational amenities throughout Somers, including six parks and a private golf course.
The lack of a train station means residents of Baldwin Place must travel, sometimes a good distance, to neighboring towns with direct Metro North Service. Distance is a consideration, but so is availability of parking spaces, which are in short supply at many stations. Some find it more feasible to travel longer if a station has better parking.
Housing inventory in Baldwin Place is limited as it is a small neighborhood. Most of the homes currently on the market are relatively new construction and priced around $500k.

"Residential suburbia with local/commercial business at an arm's length."
Baldwin Place is one of five communities that form the makeup of the Town of Somers in Westchester County. Defined largely by residential neighborhoods and clusters of homes, Baldwin Place offers a more laid-back setting with little hustle and bustle, business and clamor. Local and commercial business is left to the border of Westchester and Putnam along Route 6, which spans north into Mahopac and south into Jefferson Valley-Yorktown.
The beauty about Baldwin Place is that residents get that quiet solitude that comes wit the brink of suburban/country-living without compromising their amenities, shopping and dining options. With Route 6, Mahopac and northern Westchester right at its finger tips, Baldwin Place would be an ideal place for younger couples looking to start a family. Big box stores like Stop 'N Shop, gas stations, restaurants like the Greek American Grill, the Somers Commons and the Jefferson Valley Mall are very close by. It may not be the best place for a 20- or 30-year-old, per say, because even with all the business in close proximity, there isn't much nightlife.
Residents from Baldwin Place send their children to Somers Central School District, which is composed of Primrose Elementary (all-day kindergarten-second grade), Somers Intermediate (grades 3-5), the Somers Middle School, (grades 6-8) and Somers High School, which serves grades 9-12. It's an excellent school system with an emphasis on academics, athletics and extracurricular activities, all which culminate in up-to-date facilities.
Enjoy a laid-back lifestyle that isn't "too country" or "too secluded?" Baldwin Place is a beautiful community surrounded by rolling hills and farmland, with amentities and shopping right at arm's length.

"Well laid-out and welcoming!"
Baldwin Place is essentially a section of the Town of Somers. This almost-rectangular neighborhood includes a combination of old and newer housing and the commercial section at Somers Commons. It seems like it is more mixed-development than many of the neighboring communities in Somers. Route 202/35 runs right through Baldwin Place, making it a sort of familiar community for people getting to and from Somers, Yorktown, Lake Mahopac or even Katonah.
The children in this community also attend the well-established Somers schools and have access to the stellar community park and recreation programs. It is a great place for families with kids as the town offers engaging opportunities and the location makes it easy to access other entertainment such as a hike in Lasdon Park or a film at Cortlandt Town Center.
The shopping at Somers Commons includes a Goodwill Store and a Once Upon a Child if you are looking to donate or recycle or get gently used clothing or toys. And there’s a Learning Express Store for those looking for new toys! My favorite store in the complex in the Home Goods which always has some interesting additions to its inventory. The Stop & Shop has an extensive bakery selection which makes it worth a stop for me. Some kids like this grocery store because you have the option to pick up your own scanner at the start and scan the price of each item that you are placing in your cart or basket – they enjoy the scanning and at the end the total is read from the scanner meaning there is no waiting in long grocery lines to make your payment
Dining options in Baldwin Place are not spectacular but it is really close enough to nice restaurants in the rest of Somers and in all the adjacent towns.

"Quiet rusticness"
Baldwin Place is a small section of Somers with great natural beauty and quietude and a small amount of decent amenties.
As far as restaurants go, Baldwin Place itself has Chilli's Bar and Grill on Route 6, New Bon Buffet with very fresh buffet fare, Peppin's Pizza, Subway, a bagel place and P.J.'s Restaurant. There is also a nice Home Goods in the area as well as a Grand Central Market for very basic grocery needs like cold cuts. The market also serves soups, salads and pizza and does have a catering service. The town does have a Super Stop and Shop in the Somers Commons Shopping Center. That particular shopping center also houses a New York Sports Club, a dollar store, a Radio Shack, a card store adn a Learning Center. For other options, one needs to drive up to Mahopac or to Yorktown Heights where the Jefferson Valley Mall is located.
Baldwin Place may not have an abundance of modern ameneties, but it is rustic and close to amazing natural resources including Muscoot Farm Park, Lasdon Park, Veterans Memorial and Arboretum, Angle Fly Preserve and Reis Park all offering wonderful hiking trails and varied recreational family-friendly activities.
Baldwin Place is pretty safe and the crime rate is low.
The ethnic make-up of greater Somers is 89% White, 5% Hispanic, 3% Asian and 1.5% African American.
The population of greater Somers is 20, 224 and the median age is 45.
