"Brookline is amazing!"
I lived in the Coolidge Corner area of Brookline for one year and I loved it! You have everything you could ask for, lots of restaurants, gym, all kinds of banks, cafes, 3 different grocery stores (Trader Joe and Whole Foods included) and the best theater in MA (Coolidge Corner Theater). Simply amazing.
The only problem is that is very difficult to find an affordable apt here. Prices are getting sky high in the last year.
It's also great for kids. You can find the best schools in MA in the Brookline area. Also very safe and pretty quiet. A lot of families with babies.
