"Rural and residential"
Crompond is a community located in the town of Yorktown. Its population is about 2,300. The community is almost entirely residential, with no large strip malls or shopping centers. However, it’s in an excellent location with most necessities just a short car ride away.
About half the community’s eastern border is adjacent to Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Park. The park’s most notable feature is a swimming pool that is large enough to accommodate 2,000 bathers. There is a large playground with a climbing wall, as well as picnic areas, a golf course, and areas for fishing and boating. Yorktown also has a large recreation department, with several parks and town pools, with a variety of programs for residents of all ages.
A handful of small businesses and restaurants sit along Crompond Road, but residents must travel to nearby Jefferson Valley for more shopping choices. The Jefferson Valley Mall has 90 stores, a’nchored by Sears and Macy’s. A little further away, the Cortlandt Town Center has 40 stores, including Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Office Max and Pet Smart. Both shopping centers have movie theaters.
The Lakeland Central School District serves 6,400 students, including those who reside in Crompond. Lakeland is Westchester’s largest geographic district, taking in students residing in a 40 square mile area. There are five elementary schools in the district; Lincoln-Titus Elementary is located in Crompond and has 450 students. The district is one of the few in the area to offer full day kindergarten. A universal pre-k program allows parents to send their children to preschool in the district tuition-free. THe district also has a middle school and two high schools.
The community’s small size means real estate inventory is small, but most of the homes are affordable. Home buyers who like the school district may need to look outside Crompond in order to find something, but there are many other small villages and hamlets with a great deal to like.

"Yorktown's Bedroom Community"
Crompond is a two and a half square mile hamlet in Yorktown, and home to a bit over 2,000 people. Although it is slightly larger in area than fellow hamlet Shrub Oak, it is almost all residential, making it feel like a bona fide bedroom community. It is quiet and safe and a good place to raise kids, and shopping can be done in Yorktown Heights, at the Jefferson Valley Mall, or at the Cortlandt Town Center.
The houses here are mostly well-kept single family houses. The train to Manhattan takes between 50-70 minutes; there is no train stop anywhere in Yorktown, but Metro-North stops in at Croton-Harmon, about 20 minutes from Crompond. There is also the Bee-Line bus from Yorktown Heights, which will take you to various Westchester destinations including Playland Amusement Park in Rye during the summer. There is also an express bus to Manhattan.
Yorktown Central School District is considered a very good school system, and the John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak serves all of Yorktown, and provides a constant supply of programs for kids, teens, and adults.
While Crompond is a sleepy little hamlet, Yorktown is a social place, with many groups and societies from which to choose. There is a Senior Citizens Nutrition Center, a Teen Center, and the town government encourages residents to volunteer for boards such as Open Space, Community Housing, Landmarks Preservation, and Conservation. The Yorktown Community and Cultural Center offers programs, entertainment, rooms for town clubs and organizations, and will rent space out for private groups.
There are many outdoor things to do around Crompond, from biking on the North County Trailway – five miles of the 22-mile paved pedestrian/bicycle path runs through Yorktown – to hiking Turkey Mountain, visiting the Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center, using the array of sports facilities at the Shrub Oak Memorial Park, or spending the day at the sprawling Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, where you can picnic, swim, play all kinds of ball, hike, launch your own boat (with a permit), fish (with a license) or simply rent a rowboat and paddle around.
Residents use either the Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco or the slightly closer Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor. The Medical Center at Yorktown offers outpatient and testing services, and the Westchester Medical Practice and the Mount Kisco Medical Group both have offices in the area.
As long as you like the peace and quiet and don’t need next-door shopping, you might want to check out Crompond.

"A Quiet Getaway from Civilization in Suburbia"
Crompond is a very safe, quiet community located within Yorktown, NY. It borders Yorktown Heights and Peekskill, NY. Houses here are affordable for Westchester residents who want less noise and more secluded areas: the median being $570,000+ for a typical home. For a nice day outdoors with kids, take them to Franklin D. Roosevelt state park, or Downey Park in Yorktown Heights: there are lots of picnic tables and plenty of room to run around; it’s also a great place for the dog. You’ll be near stores like BJ’s and Staples (located along Rt. 202), and there’s plenty of shopping centers like the Triangle in nearby Yorktown Heights. Also on 202 is a bowling alley, where you can spend a fun family night out. The nearest movie theater is in the Cortlandt Town Center, which is less than twenty minutes away (take Lexington Ave. off of 202, then hop onto Rt. 6, which will take you right to the Center---also along the bus route, and there’s plenty of shopping choices there).
Little Sorrento’s, Thyme Italian and the New City Diner are great family-friendly places to eat, and there’s also Grandma’s Pie Shop, where everyone will be happy---especially come desert time. They’re world famous for their pies (I highly recommend the Lemon Meringue). The Yorktown and Lakeland School Districts are some of the best in the country; most students will graduate and go on to receive their Bachelor’s or above. Being part of Yorktown, you can use the resident pool (with membership), and there’s plenty of places for Mom or Dad to work out (try Snap Fitness on Rt. 202, also known as Crompond Rd). In the winter, you can find your Christmas tree at Wilken’s Fruite and Fir. For grocery shopping, visit Turco’s Gourmet or the A&P in nearby Yorktown Heights. (The A&P is usually open until 1am, so you’ll be able to satisfy that late-ice-cream craving.) For medical needs, you’re right near the Hudson Valley Medical Center, and there’s the world-renowned Northern Westchester Hospital in nearby Mt. Kisco.
Crompond is a very rural area, so you’ll want to have a car to get around. Yorktown has a bike path that goes between different towns, and so you can take the kids for a walk or ride bikes on a nice weather day. If you need financial assistance, you can put yourself on a waiting list for low-income housing at the Town Hall, but you’ll probably be relocated to nearby Yorktown Heights, where the low-income housing is located. Teenagers who are getting cabin fever, visit the Heights’ Jefferson Valley Mall. Major roads will be along the Beeline Bus Route. The nearest train station is Croton-Harmon, a 45-minute trip to NYC; round-trip tickets cost generally $20.00, and there is free weekend parking.

"Family-friendly and very quiet Yorktown haven."
Crompond is a small, family-friendly and mostly residential community located within the town of Yorktown, NY. Compared to some of its other Westchester County compatriots, it is definitely more affordable. But that still does't mean living there comes cheap.
Crompond is a pretty quiet area devoid of a town center and it can feel somewhat isolated, at times. Luckily, it is in close proximity to Yorktown which has the popular Jefferson Valley Mall. The JV Mall, as it is called, is home to Macy's and Sears as well as 90 other typical mall outlets and specialty stores. Also nearby is Mohegan Lake with its wealth of shops including a Wal-Mart, a Michael's, Old Navy, Game Stop, Payless, Dress Barn, Lane Bryant and a Barnes & Noble.
If you have a hankering to dine out, you can head on over to Cortlandt Manor where you will find the New City Diner, Little Sorrento's Restaurant, Grandma's Restaurant and Ernesto's Grill. In nearby Yorktown Heights, you can grab a nosh at Gaudio's Italian Family Restaurant, Piatto Grill or Thyme Restaurant.
The Yorktown Central School system is considered excellent and even one of its elementary schools, Lincoln Titus Elementary, has received national acclaim. The median SAT score of its Yorktown High School students is 1633.
For outdoor recreation, there is the nearby Mohanisc Golf Course in Yorktown Heights and the beautiful 1,538 acre Blue Mountain Reservation Park in Cortlandt Manor which offers walking and mountain biking trails and the Sprtsman Center which has rifle shooting ranges.
Crompond is a relatively safe community with little crime.
The median income in Crompond is $88,408.
The population is approximately 2,300 and it is predominantly white.

"Comfortable and quiet!"
Crompond is at the heart of Yorktown and it is one of the five hamlets that make up this town. It is a fairly typical suburb with many residential properties and some commercial development. One of the elementary schools serving the Yorktown area, grades 4 and 5, is located in Crompond. So, locally the name refers more often to the Intermediate School than anything else!
The section around BJs, where 202 meets Taconic State Parkway, can become bit of a traffic hassle during peak commute hours; but, for the bulk of the day, it means easier access to get in and out of Yorktown. The shopping in Crompond is limited but it is close enough to other offerings in the neighboring communities.
The lovely homes and fairly large-sized plots combined with the highly-reputed shools are the biggest draw of Crompond. Given that it is in Yorktown also means that there are many nature preserves within easy reach and so it is a haven for those who like their Nature Time.
A certain quiet placidity and lack of diversity may be among the cons, if you are looking for a very active suburb. But this is just a matter of what each person is looking for because there’s much to do in terms of walking, hiking and even parks and recreation activities. Downing Park has tennis courts and there are some really good walking trails in the FDR Park also.
Crompond is very family friendly and you’ll see kids of various ages in the neighborhoods here. It offers a sense of security and openness that is very attractive to parents! Soccer games in the Fox Meadows field or the baseball games at Legacy Field are all evidence of children growing up with opportunities. It is worth noting that the artificial turf at Legacy is a source of pride and joy to Yortowners!

"Fairly typical; not extraordinary"
Located within the town of Yorktown, Crompond is a small area of less than three square miles. The population of Crompond is almost all white, with small communities of African Americans, Asians, and other minorities. While it is relatively affordable, when compared to Manhattan and some of Westchester County’s more upscale neighborhoods, Crompond is far from cheap. My biggest reason for not choosing to live here is that it’s pretty boring. That’s just me though; there are lots of people who enjoy its quiet life. However, while there isn’t much to do in Crompond itself, Yorktown does have a lot to offer, and Crompond residents have fairly easy access to Yorktown’s amenities. Crompond is very family friendly; most of the households here are made up of couples and families with children. The school district is pretty good, but again, it isn’t the best system in Westchester County. Overall, I’d say that Crompond is a nice and peaceful place to live if you’re into that sort of lifestyle or if you are raising a family. However, there are cheaper and livelier places to live – both in Westchester County and in New York City's outer boroughs.

"An okay community - Yorktown has better offerings"
The school system in Crompond ranks well in the county but parents seem to have mixed opinions about it. The high school is small and doesn't offer many electives and some say that students that need special education services don't receive the best. The upside of the high school being so small is that there is a low student to teacher ratio. For younger children there are several childcare options in Crompond and in the surrounding area of Yorktown.
It's an expensive area to live in even though the real estate prices are affordable by Westchester County Standards.
Crompond is a part of Yorktown which offers some stellar parks. There's a golf course open to the public, hundreds of acres of nature preserves, lots of lakes, and miles of trails.
The neighborhood of Crompond can be a little boring but that's only because it's a small slice of Yorktown. If you're looking for a neighborhood where you can walk into town and do some shopping then Crompond isn't going to deliver. In fact, Crompond falls short in a few areas. There are a lot of nicer communities within Yorktown that have top rated schools and the type of town center you'd expect from a village.
