"A decent place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live here."
We moved here from the upper Great Lakes 6 years ago. Total culture shock! This city, located in the western part of the state. Cultrually, think: of the 70's tv show "Hee Haw" meets " Dukes of Hazard" mixed with the films "Smokey and the Bandit", "Deliverance" and " In The Heat of the Night". Lots of illiteracy, heroin abuse, liberal almost automatic use of the N-word for African Americans by both sexes and people of all ages. For a town that was once the 2nd largest in Maryland, it's been a somewhat bitter experice moving here, though as is the case anywhere, there are some genuinally good hearted people, but it can't balance out the Culture. We are moving ASAP.
Pros
- beautiful scenery
- great climate
Cons
- illeteracy/drug abuse/lots of mental illness
- nothing but retail work
- fair amount of racism
