"Great town with lots of local history"

Nestled in the suburban sprawl of Baltmiore and Howard County, Ellicott City contains several historic properties that distinguishes it from surrounding towns. Main Street which is considered the "downtown" area, is host to a concentrated area of historic buildings that date back a couple centuries. You get the sense that you've stepped back in time, surrounded by well maintained properties that are reminiscent of a colonial era. Ellicott City was once a stop on the B&O Railroad and pays homage to those days with a museum overlooking the train tracks. Main Street itself is home to many family owned businesses and restaurants, with a number of retail and antique shops. There is also a variety of dining, from a pizzeria (Sorrentos) to a five star steakhouse (Jordans). And, for anyone in need of a late night hangout, you have a few local taverns to pop into. It's a great place for a family outing and an even better place to live.
Not only are the school systems in the area among the top in the nation, but you also have a great sense of community when living here. Both Baltimore and DC are only a short drive away, so you have quick access to city living and nightlife. The outskirts of Ellicott City are more typical suburban developments, but there is plenty of greenery and local parks that make it seem somewhat rural. There are still a few old farms and plenty of woods that remain untouched. Ellicott City borders Patapsco State Park and there are a handful of trails for hikers and campgrounds for outdoor lovers. For more adventurous types, there are even places to go rock climbing. I loved growing up in this area and I look forward to starting my own family here.
