Fleming

Fleming is a little town just northeast of Sterling by about 25 minutes. Since it doesn't lie next to I-76 like Sterling, it can feel a bit remote. There are no real businesses or shopping and dining to speak of other than a tiny market, so the 408 residents must travel for a bit for these things. Although it is remote, this town has a nice laid back feel to it. There are some great older buildings here that have been around for quite a few years and like many little towns in Colorado these buildings can give you a hint of what the town looked like years ago. In Fleming, as with many towns on the plains of Colorado you can spot the grain elevators long before you're near the town. The water tower is also spotted from farther off, letting you know you're getting close.

Fleming schools get an overall rating of average, although I don't think this rating is very fair. While the elementary school may need some improvements, Fleming High School has repeated been one of the top scoring schools in the state. This is based on state testing standards and parental approval follows the same line.

Fleming is a town of 400 people in Logan County in the far northeastern Colorado near the Nebraska border, not far from I-76. Like most areas in the high plains of NE Colorado the summers are hot and the sun really beats down and the winters are windy and cold with some snow but not much compared to the Front Range or mountainous interior of colorful Colorado. Fleming feels more like Nebraska or Kansas and you are too far east to see the mountains to the west.

The average household income is about $25,000 and most are employed in the trucking industry or agriculture. The town of Sterling is not far to the west and acts as the place for residents to shop and go to restaurants and social events. The Front Range cities are a good hours drive away. There are properties in town that commonly go for less than $100,000 and large land plots and ranches go for very reasonable prices compared to Colorado overall.
