"Fort Thomas: A Seriously Great Place to Rear Kids!"
Fort Thomas is an older community with a variety of house styles and sizes. You can expect to pay as much as 1.5 million for a house or as little as 60 thousand for a house. Because many of the houses here are smaller, cottage style layouts, it is not unusual to have a large addition on the back. Fort Thomas is listed as one of the safest cities in Kentucky. Because it has no busy roads, the community is always busy with walkers, runners and cyclist. It is very kid friendly and has a terrific park system that include play grounds, a dog park, outdoor amphitheater, sand volleyball, basketball courts, mountain bike trails, wooded walking trails, baseball fields and walking paths. The schools are number 1 in the state. There are 3 elementary schools, of which 2 have recently been through major additions and restorations, that are great for walking to school. Fort Thomas is centrally located; less than 10 minutes to downtown, 20 minutes to Kenwood or Florence and 25 minutes to the air port. In addition there are several local top notch colleges as well, including, Northern Kentucky University, University of Cincinnati, Xavier, College of Mount St. Joe, Thomas More College and I am sure more that I cannot remember. Shopping is less than 2 miles away if you shop at TJMaxx, Target, Dicks, or the "downtown Ft. Thomas" Colonel Dees, or the adorable Fort Thomas Central gift shop. There are several small restaurants/bars, a doughnut shop, a quickie mart, a gas station and a yoga studio. I can honestly say that Fort Thomas is like living in a small quaint town without being far from the big city. I does have some down falls, including, hilly terrain which makes a flat back yard a rarity, there is very little cultural diversity here which I find almost disturbing sometimes, it is very Christian having at least 7 churches in a small town which may be awkward for some, the speed limit is 25 almost EVERYWHERE and the police are good at enforcing the limit, and finally the "natives" (people who have been born and reared here) are sometimes hard to understand. There are a few powerful families that really want to keep Fort Thomas in their "traditional" format. If you are going to move here, don't expect much to change, but you can count on living in a safe, Highlands proud, friendly community.
