"A nice little farming community in southeastern Colorado"
Fowler is a quiet little community located in southeastern Colorado just 40 minutes east of Pueblo. This area of Colorado is well known for it's agriculture and Fowler is no different. There are numerous farms surrounding the area, but even with the many farms, the largest industry in Fowler is health care and social assistance. This may be in part due to a large nursing facility that is located in town. White people make up over 80% of the population which totals 1,182, followed by Hispanic. The median household income here is $27,465, which is considerably lower than the state average of $55,430. Almost 23% of the population of Fowler is living below the poverty rate. In addition to lower wages here, the housing market is cheaper as well. You can find an average median priced home here for $83,906 which is also considerably lower than the state of Colorado average which is $237,800.
For residents of Fowler with children, the school system is pretty good. They consistently rate above average when it comes to state standards and testing scores. A good portion of the parents also rate the schools high.
As far as amenities, there isn't much in Fowler. This quiet little town is like many others in Colorado and has a library, baseball fields, and an outdoor swimming pool. For larger adventures, you need to travel to Pueblo or another big city. There are several locally owned restaurants here, but the last time I was here there weren't any fast food or chain type of restaurants.
Overall I would recommend Fowler for it small town atmosphere and for families with school aged children. The crime rate here is below the national average and it seems as if it's a pretty safe place to live and raise kids.

"Fowler is a farming community with a southwest feel"
Fowler is a small farming community of about 1200 residents on the southeastern plains of Colorado just east of Pueblo on HW 50. The town was originally build around the way station for the Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The Arkansas River flows through the town and gives it life, providing water for the green agricultural lands spread from each bank. Fowler has some amazing historic buildings in its downtown and some historic homes in the neighborhoods close to downtown.
This is a cowboy town, rodeo, hats, horses and all. There is abundant wildlife along the Arkansas River basin and Fowler is famous for its birds; quail, pheasant, dove, bald eagle, golden eagle, ducks, geese and hawks, lesser prairie chickens and longbill curlew. Grassland areas surround Fowler where the land has not been plowed up for crops, Picketwire Canyon is an area just out of town where the prairie grass still waves and you can take hikes and explore what the area was like back when the pioneers came in in the late 1880s. Deer, fox, antelope, bobcat and even mountain lion and bear can be found in the wild lands around Fowler.
A Colorado plains community, Fowler feels different from the northeastern Colorado farm communities. In Fowler there is a feel of the southwest, adobe, indian ruins and a deeper stronger root to the pioneer and pre-colonial days when the buffalo and indians roamed. There is a lot of history in the area and a quiet desolation.
Homes and property in Fowler are pretty affordable be it a home in town or a ranch or farmland. There is also a nice golf course, some hotels, restaurants and festivals throughout the year. The schools in Fowler also have a good reputation.
