"A Diverse Town Full of Native Transplants - Everyone Treated as a Native Regardless of Original Place of Birth"
My wife and I discovered G-town after a cycling trip taken with a fellow attorney from the area. He invited us back for drinks and to meet the rest of his family. We quickly realized this was what we had hoped to find in Charlotte and didn't. Gastonia is full of people from all walks of life and all parts of the world. It is a community that embraces diversity and welcomes outsiders. After attending a number of functions in the city and at homes of newly made friends, we decided to sell our Charlotte home and move to Gastonia. Five years later and ten total years in NC and we are so pleased that our little G-town is still a place we are proud to call home! Our Saturdays are spent with our fun gay neighbors shopping the local farmer's market getting veggies for the week. We love the local antique and junk shops for entertainment on the weekends, too. The charming old historic neighborhoods are what you picture when envisioning the perfect small town USA. Everyone is kind and always engaging in parties, fundraisers, and school events. We love Gastonia! (-coming from a NYer and a Californian)
Pros
- great farmer's market and nurseries
- close to airport
- diverse group of neighbors
- affordable cost of living to be so close to Charlotte
- quiet and beautiful old neighborhoods
- safe and little traffic
Cons
- inch worms in Spring
- lack of gourmet grocery stores

Hello. My family and I are considering moving to NC this fall. Is Gastonia near Raleigh? What about the schools in the area? We have a 7 year old that will be going to the 3rd grade.

"The Real Mayberry"
I moved to G-town (Gastonia's nickname) from Atlanta, Georgia. I lived in Charlotte 14 years ago and wanted to return. After realizing that Charlotte was too expensive for my budget, I began searching places around it in metro areas. The neighborhood I chose is the York Chester historic district. Since my first week in March, I have realized Gastonia has everything I need and love. Trips to nearby Charlotte are fewer than I anticipated. The people are so genuine and friendly with many wonderful evenings spent dining at someone's home. Living in Gastonia feels like I've won the lottery...great old historic brick home, close to major airport, plenty of shopping, great neighbors, and the feeling of HOME!
Pros
- quiet and beautiful old neighborhoods
- safe and little traffic
- affordable cost of living to be so close to Charlotte
Cons
- lack of gourmet grocery stores
- old reputation of lack of a middle class. So not true.
- inch worms in Spring

"Everything You Want in Gastonia"
Absolutely anything your heart desires is located on Franklin Boulevard. Major department stores, local shops, fast food, casual dining, local businesses, and more. The street gets very busy on Saturday mornings when everyone is out shopping and running errands. Franklin is the gateway to Gastonia.

"A True Shopper's Paradise"
Frankin Boulevard in Gastonia is a shoppers paradise. There are so many shops to choose from and there really is something for everyone. It ranges from small boutiques to homemade ice cream shops to tattoo parlors. I love going down there when I have a little extra money to blow. You can really find all kinds of awesome stuff. However, beware that this particular part of town does look a little seedy. Its doesn't have alot of newly built stores and shops. It has more of small town feel and some older shops. If you're looking to do some old-style Southern shopping Franklin Boulevard has you covered!
