"A Great Place To Live"
My family has lived in Glen Ridge for eleven years. We moved from Manhattan in 2003 because we loved the Montclair area and ended up finding a house and neighborhood we loved in Glen Ridge. We made a great choice. Glen Ridge is a small, tight-knit community filled with interesting, intelligent, successful people who want the best for their kids and their community. Parents are very involved in the schools and get to know each other that way. This is a town where families watch out for each other. News that someone is having surgery sparks a meal train. Parents send their big kids to shovel seniors' walkways. Neighbors band together and share generators during the handful of bad storms we've had. The houses, old trees and gas lamps are beautiful. The commute to NYC is a quick one. The schools are excellent. But it's the people that make this town so great.
Pros
- A highly rated sought after school system
- A New York City Commute in 30 minutes via train
- Fabulous early 19th century architecture
Cons
- a very small down town/ commercial zone
- taxes are on the higher end

"Beautiful Architecture"
Glen Ridge NJ is primarily single family homes built in the early 19th century. It is 99% residential with a small downtown area with a post office, train station, high school and Fitzgerald's a local pub servicing Glen Ridge Residents since 1928. Glen Ridge has a historic ambiance preserved through the gas lamps which line the streets in town and the Glen Ridge Historic Society. Some of the most famous 19th century architects have touched the landscape in Glen Ridge. Among the most noted is Frank Lloyd Wright ( famous for the Prairie Home, which is found throughout the town).
Glen Ridge has a fabulous , small school system, consistently ranked in the top 10 % of schools for NJ which attracts local New York executives and their families. The town can be found on the Montclair-Booton Train Line. For convenience the town also offers a local jitney service to the Ridgewood Avenue train station, no parking is necessary.
