Lincolndale, NY is an ideal place for anyone who wishes to live in the heart of beautiful, historical Westchester County. A hamlet of the lovely town of Somers, NY, Lincolndale shares Somer's rich history in Barnum and Bailey Circus fame (Somers has been called “The Birthplace of the American Circus” and its symbol is an Elephant in honor of the Elephant from Africa named Old Bet (?-1816) who came to the area with Hachaliah Bailey and immediately stole people's hearts).

Now, when driving through the heart of Somers, you can see the statue of the beloved Elephant before the backdrop of the Elephant Hotel (which is now a museum preserving Somer's cultural and historical heritage). Aside from great schools, Somers also has two shopping plazas and plenty of businesses which can tailor to any possible need. There's lots of youth organizations specializing in sports in the area, including Boy Scouts of America and the local YMCA. Restaurants like the Tazza Cafe have unique coffee drinks, and you'll love the food at other unique places like Traditions 118, Seasons: An American Bistro & Lounge and Somerfields.

Primarily residential, homes in Lincolndale go for around $368,000, which is pretty cheap as far as Westchester County is concerned (it's the second most expensive county in the United States). It's very safe and there's a real sense of community here. Whether you're just visiting or planning to stay for the rest of your life, just spend a day here, and I bet you'll feel like you already belong in Lincolndale, NY.

Lincolndale, a hamlet in the town of Somers, has a population of 1,500 and occupies 1.4 square miles. The northern part of the hamlet, which forms part of the border between Westchester and Putnam, is more densely populated with a large network of streets winding around Lake Lincolndale, a 20-acre man-made lake.

During the early part of the last century, the area consisted of summer homes, but by the mid-1950s, year-round residents began putting down roots. In 1937, the Lake Lincolndale Property Owners Association (LLPOA) formed as a social and recreational organization, but evolved to address issues such as safety and water quality. Today, there is a small sandy beach staffed by lifeguards, a snack bar and a clubhouse. Residents can swim, fish, use non-motorized boats and skate when the lake is frozen.

The town of Somers offers additional recreational opportunities, though golf enthusiasts will appreciate Lincolndale’s Anglebrook Golf Club. Built in 1998, the private club is ranked as one of the best in New York State. Westchester County oversees Lasdon Park, which has formal gardens and walking trails. The property was once the private estate of Mildred and William Lasdon, and was sold to the county after their deaths. The main house has an excellent horticultural library. There are six town parks; amenities include playgrounds, nature trails, picnic areas and facilities for tennis, baseball, volleyball and basketball.

All of Lincolndale is located within the Somers School District, which has a great reputation. There is one school for each age group: Primrose Elementary, Somers Intermediate, Somers Middle School, and Somers High School. Primrose and the high school are both located in Lincolndale. In addition to the public schools, Lincolndale is also home to Lincoln Hall Boys’ Haven, which opened in 1863 as a home for Civil War orphans. Today it is a residential school for boys from troubled and disadvantaged situations. Many of them graduate and go on to college.

Retail options are limited. The hamlet’s post office is located in Lincolndale Plaza, which also has a veterinary center. There is a large Stop and Shop located in Somers Commons, a large shopping center on Route 6, which is the area’s main commercial road.

Lincolndale’s small size results in limited housing inventory. However, it’s a good option for house-hunters with smaller budgets. Many of the hamlet’s homes started out as small vacation cottages, later renovated for year-round living. Today, many of those homes are modestly priced, single-family homes, great for young families who are drawn to the idea of living in quiet lakeside community.

There are towns in neighborhoods in Westchester, where even when you are on auto-pilot at the end of a long day or while focused on errands that it is hard to ignore the beauty of your surroundings. For me the drive through Lincolndale is always a moment of acknowledging the gorgeous setting. The drive along 202 as I go past the Lincoln Hall Boys'Haven - an alternative school - with the low wall and the greenery all around is particularly striking. This lake community is known to be very cohesive and considered a lovely place to raise a family.

There isn't much to see or do in Lincolndale as it is a primarily residential neighborhood. However, it does have great access to nearby shopping and so that is not a deterrent. The famous Angelbrook Golf Course is nearby as another reviewer has mentioned and is considered one of the primary courses, not just in the area, but the nation as well. For those looking for great walking paths Reis Park and Koegel Park in the near vicinity offer some nice options.

Lincolndale is a part of the Town of Somers and this means that it part of the great public school system and the reputed park and recreation program as well. Children growing up in Lincolndale have access to good facilities and great programs through the Somers Public Library as well.

Lincolndale is a quiet community with much to offer those looking for natural beauty and a suburban setting.

Lincolndale is a 1.4 square mile hamlet located within the town of Somers. The area is filled with natural beauty and offers abundant peace and quiet. It is a little more affordable than other parts of Somers, but by no means is it cheap. Lincolndale doesn't have a whole lot of amenities but it does have Sunshine Restaurant near the Post Office.

In greater Somers, there are more restaurant selections including Luce Seafood and Pasta House, Il Forno Trattoria Brick Oven Pizza, Tazza Cafe Coffee and Espresso Bar, the Firehouse Deli, Imperial Wok, the slightly more upscale Seasons American Bistro and Lounge and King Kone.

For your shopping needs, you will want to head on over to Somerstown Shopping Center which has a CVS, several banks, a few eateries, a nail salaon, a dry cleaners and a Verizon store. There is also the Bladwin Place Shopping Center/Somers Commoms in Baldwin Place which has a Stop & Shop, a New York Sports Club, a Chilis, a Home Goods, a Q's Garden, a dollar store, a Radio Shack, a card store and a learning center. You can also take a short drive east to Yorktown Heights and visit the Jefferson Valley Mall.

Lincolndale is home to the Ridgewood Golf Club, touted at the "16th best in New York State," by Golf Digest. Reis Park has playing fields, playgrounds basketball and tennis courts and walking trails. Lasden Park, Veterans Memorial and Arboretum is also close by and this 234 acre expanse harbors woodlands, meadows and gorgeous manicured formal gardens. Weddings often take place there. It also contains a few memorials as well as a museum honoring war veterans. And then there is the magnificent Angle Fly Preserve nestled between Reis Park and the Arboretum. It is a wonderful 654 acre affair which offers hiking, fishing, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing and is really good for bird-watching. There are quite a few trails for the enthusiastic hiker.

Lincolndale is part of the Somers Central School District which is considered very good. The median SAT score of its high school students is 1669.

Lincolndale is quite safe and crime is relatively low.

They work together to keep the town clean and well maintained. The neighbors are pretty friendly and definitely very helpful once you get to know them. I have friends who live in Lincolndale, and they tell me that their neighbors are their primary source of childcare. As far as real estate prices and the cost of living, Lincolndale is pretty affordable. It is a typical middle class suburb, with few cases of wealth and even fewer cases of poverty. While Lincolndale is pretty similar to the other hamlets in Somers, it does boast slightly better options for recreation. There is the golf course, a small variety of stores, and a pizza place. The residents of Lincolndale send their kids to the schools in the Somers Central district, which is supposedly excellent. Overall, it's a reasonably good choice for people who want some peace and quiet, but a terrible idea for people who are looking for a bustling downtown area or trendy nightlife spots.

Lincolndale is a great community. If you're new to the area it's a good idea to become part of the association that runs Lake Lincolndale. They also deal with issues other than the lake and organize lots of community events. The community as a whole is very proactive in keeping the lake and surrounding areas environmentally safe. They use natural means whenever possible like using fish to keep weeds from overtaking the lake. The neighborhood is still friendly but becoming part of the association is the best way to meet new people.

The lake is used for swimming in the summer and ice skating in the winter and is the center of socialization. There's also Anglebrook Golf Club if you're a golfer.

There are two shopping centers in town but they're very small, you'd have to go to a neighboring town to get any serious shopping done. As for restaurants there are a few including the clubhouse at Anglebrook Golf Club and a decent Italian place called Sunshine Pizza.

Lincolndale is part of the Somers Central School district which is very highly rated and is located right in the neighborhood.

Since it's such a small community there isn't any nightlife or entertainment and young adults may find the quiet life a little boring.
