"Up & Coming Suburb"
Monticello is a city right on I-94, about 45 minutes northwest of the Twin Cities. The school system is good, with a high school that is only about 10 years old. The facilities are state-of-the-art and well done.
The town itself has some shopping and restuarants. There are mainly a couple large department stores (Target, WalMart, Home Depot) as well as a scrapbook specialty store, and others. Larger shopping is available by driving 1/2 hour either west to St. Cloud or East to Maple Grove and the Twin Cities.
The town is located a short distance from a lot of things. A day in the metro area is not a long trip, and it's plausible to travel there even just for a concert, a museum, or even just dinner. Monticello is also close to the country, so living in the country is plausible as well.
It's a great town that is becoming a suburb a little more every day! The ultimate in country "city" life.
