"A great little town many people pass on their way somewhere else"
Monument lies both east and west of I-25 just north of Colorado Springs and about 45 minutes south of Denver. It's an easy stop for gas or snacks if you're traveling on I-25, and sometimes people don't see the real charm it has because they are in such a hurry. When you go a little deeper to check things out you find quaint little shops and eateries mixed among the gorgeous landscape. Located at the base of the mountains it has great views and nice homes.
The median home price in Monument is $365,000 with the median income at just under $87,000. Many of the residents here work in the computer fields and commute to either Denver or Colorado Springs. Many of the more expensive homes on the east side of the highway are well spread out and lie on some acreage with trees and rolling landscape. There are subdivisions in town on the west side of the highway which are more reasonably priced and closer to the highway.
Other than grocery stores and a few smaller shops, there isn't too much shopping in town. However, with Colorado Springs so close there are numerous places to shop or eat only 15-20 minutes away. Residents can also drive about 20 minutes north to Castle Rock where there is a great outdoor outlet mall which has numerous shops for clothing, shoes, household items, and the like.
During winter months the driving in Monument can be a bit tricky on the pass and occasionally it's closed to travelers. Using caution on this section of I-25 is a must during the snowy season, although road crews do a good job of keeping it clean.
Monument is overall a family friendly place with great schools from the elementary levels on up.
