Springfield

Springfield is a small town of just 1,451 people on the southeastern plains of Colorado. The town started in the late 1880s and had been settled by a large group of people from Springfield, MO, which is how the town got it's name. Although the median income for Springfield is much lower than the state average, the median home prices are considerably lower as well, making the cost of living in this town very appealing. The majority of the town residents are White (at 87%), followed by Hispanic. Typically this town has a pretty low crime rate, but a couple years in a row of higher crime changed the statistics for this town. Overall, it's still a good, low crime town to live in. In Springfield you'll find the most common industries being health care, social assistance, retail trade and construction.

The town itself has an old time charm to it. Driving down the main street in town you can almost feel yourself living in years gone by with the old storefronts, brick buildings, and central feeling of commerce. Around town are more old brick buildings and there is even an old log cabin from years ago. As the town's population is so small, most everyone knows everyone else and there is a real sense of community here. Although I haven't passed through here in years, I can still remember a couple we spoke to at the little drug store. They were the friendliest people and had all the time in the day to talk to my family who was just passing through. Truly a small town setting where the people are just downright friendly, considerate, and caring.

For families with children who live here the schools are good. From elementary to high school they all rate average to above average when it comes to state testing standards. The high school rates the highest with an 8 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest. For being a small town there are several restaurants here, along with a grocery store. For more dining and shopping options, residents need to travel to Lamar, which is about a 45 minute drive away.

Springfield would be a good place to call home for anyone who wants small town living with good schools and friendly neighbors.
