"Stonegate is "nice" but sheltered and kind of dull"

Stonegate is a residential upper to middle class neighborhood south of Denver southern part of the I-470 beltloop, only about 5 miles east of where I-470 meets I-25 at Centennial. This little community in Douglas County. There are about 6,000 residents politely packed into modern, well planned but cookie cutter streets.

The average household income is about $100,000 a year and the schools and cleanliness of the neighborhoods reflect this wealth. This is not rustic Colorado living but more of a mimic of suburbs around midwestern cities back east. Clean, safe and rather boring really, the kind of neighborhoods where kids act out because they are bored and where they yearn for a place they can interact with society rather than being sheltered away from life. I know this sounds harsh but for those reading this wanting to move to Colorado to experience Colorado Stonegate is not what you are looking for. If you are looking for a safe couple of square miles where you can have a nice home, good schools and an easy commute to Denver or the tech center than this may not be a bad choice. However, there are much more interesting communities to explore in Colorado and the Denver area and up into the Boulder area to the north. If you want real Colorado you will have to venture out of the safe but busy and dirty Denver area, keep heading west!
Pros
  • easy commute to Denver

"A nice subdivision just off of Lincoln"

Stonegate is a nice addition to Parker which has good sized homes just off of Lincoln Avenue. Although it's only a few miles east of I-25, Lincoln Avenue can get pretty backed up with traffic, especially during rush hour. Some people choose to take I-25 to Jordan Road and over to Stonegate since there is much less traffic and it can really save time. I have several friends who live in this neighborhood and although I like the area I am amazed at how it can take snow plows so long to get to this area after a snow storm sometimes.

The neighborhood is pretty quiet with several parks and an outdoor community pool. Throughout the neighborhood there are areas with grass which lead to a very open feel. There is also an area with an outdoor volleyball court and tennis courts. There are many families with children in this area and the schools here, which are a part of the Douglas County School District, are really good. It is a very nice neighborhood to raise kids in and many families are on great terms with their neighbors.

Stonegate is located very close to many restaurants, shopping, and the Parker Rec Center which has a pool with slides, weight room, baseball fields, soccer fields, an inline hockey rink in the summer, and a huge gym. From the rec center there is a way to get to the biking trail which goes through Parker to Franktown and is really well maintained and scenic. I have biked on this path many times and always enjoy it.

Homes here are currently selling from the high $300,000s to the mid $400,000 range. Most of the homes have smaller front yards with bigger back yards. The landscaping is nice and all of the homes look well cared for. The streets are wide with plenty of parking and room for kids to play.

If you travel west on Lincoln Avenue there is the Wildlife Experience, a museum that has rotating exhibits and offers special things to do on different holidays. A little farther northwest and you are at Park Meadows Mall, one of the nicest in Colorado.

While there are no medical facilities in the neighborhood itself, there are two hospitals located very close. Sky Ridge Medical Center is just off of Lincoln Avenue several miles west, and in Parker northeast of Stonegate, is Parker Adventist Hospital.
Pros
  • nice homes which are well maintained
  • good schools
Cons
  • a very busy street goes through this neighborhood
