Trinidad

I have stopped in Trinidad many times on my way to New Mexico and back. There is a very nice vibe in this town that is laid back and accepting. Although this town gets it's fair share of travelers, the townspeople are always warm and welcoming. There are some very good restaurants here and my family and I always make it a point to try and have lunch or dinner here. Many people who are just traveling through can easily miss the charm and attractive nature of this town.

This is a great location for anyone who loves the outdoors. There are numerous places to go camping, hiking and biking in and around Trinidad and it is a very lovely place to be.

For residents of the town there aren't many job opportunities, and most of the town is employed in the hospitality sector. The schools here are all around average although some rate higher than others. The median home price here is $120,000 which is low for the state but there are also some very large nicer homes on the outskirts of town. The median household income level here is $32,755 which is also lower than the state average.

Trinidad has a reputation as an alternative, gay friendly place. Yes, that vibe in there but really it is a beautiful southern Colorado community not far from New Mexico.

There is a good mix of the desert and mountains in Trinidad and there is a lot of camping and hiking oportunities to explore the Spanish Peaks wilderness just west of Trinidad. There are some seriously delicious mexican restaurants and many cafes and places to stroll around town. Near downtown some of the historic homes are gorgeous! Some have a victorian look and many are painted in bright southwest colors. It is unique place and a refuge from the dull-conservative feel of Pueblo or the stiff militant feel of Colorado Springs.

John Elway lives in a ranch outside of Trinidad, or at least has one of his many properties. There are so many beautiful ranches and properties skirting west of town. With a population of about 9,000 people in Trinidad, the town is the county seat and largest community in Las Animas County and acts as the commercial center for the area. It really is a beautiful spot and for those looking for a unique, rick culture by Colorado's southern Front Range this may be the place. Homes and properties are diverse in price and architecture, there are creeks, forests, pinyon/juniper—basically there are so many types of environment and people around Trinidad. It is a cool place where I would consider living:)
