"A small stop between Pueblo and Trinidad"
This small town has a population of roughly 3,000. During the late 1800s Walsenburg was known for all of the coal mines located here which were all eventually shut down. Walsenburg is the best stop for travelers looking for food or gas in between Pueblo and Trinidad. For weary travelers there are more than a few motels and bed & breakfast places to stay. Most of them are incredibly reasonably priced.
The median home price here is $75,000 while the median household income level is $21,500, both which are way below Colorado's averages. Walsenburg is a predominantly Hispanic area, with white residents making up the second largest demographic of the population. Much of the town works in the hospitality industry.
The schools in this town all rank below average on state standardized tests.
