"An Island Of Rich Folks"
Have you heard of the insensitive term “white flight”? Well, this is the place that all the people who used to be in Woodland Hills about fifteen to twenty years ago ran off to get away from urban sprawl. I know, I have relatives who are hiding out here. I suppose that if you can afford it, this is a pretty good place to live. Nice big houses along the hills—mansions really. And manicured lawns and gated communities farther down in the city. The restaurants are okay, what there are of them. And you will find lots of rich folks of European descent here. If that is what you are into, this is the place for you. I personally find it more than a little bland in its cosmetic appeal. My kids would be a little too rowdy for the area I think.
Westlake, of course, has the necessary prerequisite for being an upscale neighborhood--it has a large rolling golf course and country club. But my favorite part of Westlake Village is the lake. It has a wonderfully redundant name, Westlake Lake, and here is the part that I rather like. It has a large island at its center with lots of houses out there. Talk about being out of touch with regular folks, huh?
