"Basemar Shopping Center and the Martin Acres neighborhood"
Basemar is the name of the shopping center on Baseline Road just west off the HW 36 exit ramp as you come into Boulder from Denver. The neighborhood behind and to the east of the Basemar shopping center is known as Martin Acres and is along a long straight 25 MPH road called Moorhead. Martin Acres is full of brick ranch style house and along with Baseline Road marks the northern edge of what is known as SoBo or South Boulder.
Basemar is literally across the road from the southern edge of the University of Colorado and is also adjacent to the Aurora Avenue neighborhood to the east and the bottom of The Hill neighborhood that skirts the campus and mountains to the west. Unlike the Aurora Avenue neighborhood with its packed student housing Martin Acres is not as student ridden but is made up of middle class working adults and families. It is a great place to buy a starter house for a family in Boulder.
There are a lot of great bike paths and walkways to CU that lead to other parts of the city. It is also relatively quiet considering that Martin Acres is a relatively huge sprawl of ranch style houses tightly packed in for blocks and blocks. There are countless cul de sacs that loop off of the the main road of Moorhead and if followed far enough goes all the way to where Table Mesa runs into highway 36.
The Basemar shopping center and the Table Mesa shopping center further south are the only shops or restaurants around Martin Acres, there are no neighborhood cafes or shops. However there are plenty of parks and paths and a few small creeks.
