Bayshore

Just a mile from both Candlestick Park and the vast San Francisco Bay, Bayshore is a somewhat well-connected Daly City neighborhood. The area is also known for encompassing the Cow Palace, a multipurpose indoor arena which hosts a variety of popular concerts, sporting events, rodeos, dog shows, car shows, monster truck rallies, etc. Yet with all of that said, the city’s commercial limits still suffer from an unattractive aesthetic. Most of its business real-estate is centered along Geneva Street, and hosts a couple fast food chains, home furnishing stores and neighborhood boutiques.

Bayshore’s residential community is a mixed bag of middle-class dwellings. The city is mostly saturated with modern, boxy and very attractive, two-story homes in what seems like a newly built neighborhood. Most of these more polished homes are clustered around the southern end of the city. They lay ground to small, relatively well-maintained yards, pristine driveways and two-car garages. A few of its dozen blocks stand on steep inclines and provide smaller houses that typically share side walls. But if you choose to live on the hillside, you can get a view of the bustling Daly City suburban landscape.

For your transportation options, bus lines traverse Geneva Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard somewhat frequently. Others commute through Bayshore’s Caltrain stop. The rail skirts the eastern edge of the city and connects residents to San Francisco and its abounding commercial district.

When people think of Bayshore, the first thing that comes to mind is the Sharks. No not the ones in the nearby bay waters, but the ones on the ice of the Cow Palace. This is the main feature of this neighborhood.

The other one is the power plant on the eastern end.

Sandwiched in between these two less than hospitable features is a swath of homes that make up the neighborhood. These boxy little deals are tightly packed up against each other, trading in front grassy yards (for the most part) for driveways to their garages. (Creating a rather unpleasant affect—the streets feel a bit on the barren side because of this lack of foliage. )

The other problem, of course, is that the proximity of the Cow Palace means a lot of traffic and the occasional interloper trying to parking fees parking right in front of your home.

Generally speaking, the area also has a rundown look to it, which is not helped out by the fact it is filled with older beat up looking cars and low hanging power lines.

Of course, the combination of poor schools and proximity of some areas known for their high crime just to the east make this not a very good neighborhood in which to settle down long term.
