"Parks and Families and Parks and Parks"
Cragmont is one of the most upscale neighborhoods in Berkeley, former the area of the Berkeley Hills just north of the Rose Garden and the La Loma Park. Its moderately winding streets are filled with tightly packed homes—many of them mansions in the Mission style (red tiled roofs, cream colored adobe walls). The neighborhood is named for rock formations that jut up periodically along the hills as they head up towards the North Bay and includes one of the more well-known rock climbing spots in north Berkeley, Indian Rock Park. Indian Rock is just one of the rock climbing spots in the area however, with rocks also at Cragmont Park, Remillard Park and . Other parks include John Hinkel Park (where they sometimes have little plays at the little outdoor amphitheater), and Codornices Park and Dorothy Bolte Park which have nice kids play areas and cool stone slides.
As you might gather from the long list of parks above this is yet another sign of the overwhelmingly family oriented nature of North Berkeley. Although the narrow hillside roads are not conducive to outdoor play, the area is otherwise set for parents who enjoy spending time outdoors with their children. Cragmont Elementary is an excellent school well-loved by the local parents and the community is very involved and supportive.
