Deanwood

Deanwood is a neighborhood located in the Northeast section of the city and has approximately 5,635 people living here. The neighborhood is located on the Maryland state line (Eastern Avenue) bordered by the Anacostia Parkway, Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue and Division Avenue. The median house price in 2010 was $108,227, which is very affordable for a home in the District.

In addition to the low price of the homes here, many will find the Deanwood Metro Station very appealing. Also the proximity to Route 50 and Interstate 95 for those commuting to jobs in Maryland is ideal. Schools in the neighborhood include Ronald H. Brown Middle School, Houston Elementary School, Burrville Elementary School and Idea PCS-Integrated Design Electronics Academy. Deanwood is also the home to over 25 places of worship. Deanwood Recreation Center is located within the neighborhood as well. Anacostia Park and the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens are nearby.

Although there are a number of small grocery stores in the neighborhood, shopping is problematic. Restaurants and places for entertainment are also scarce in Deanwood, Crime of various types, including assault and robbery is a big issue if you are looking to move here.

Deanwood is one of those places where young people starting out can make their dreams come true. Keep in mind that many people who have the same means as those buying homes in Deanwood also consider living in the suburbs. Anyhow, the chance to get a house and yard for cheap is worth checking out.
