"Neighborhood with a lot of history"
Santa Ana's Floral park neighborhood has a part, like many other places in Santa Ana, in Orange county's history. It's a great place to live with many streets covered in shade trees (a source of contention at times due to the trees height and the effects on the sidewalk) and nearly all the homes have interesting architecture. Some neighbors are really active in the community association that puts on a yearly neighborhood home and garden tour; other neighbors like to keep to themselves. I felt safe living there and got the impression that many families with kids felt the same way. Morrison Park is a nice little park that located roughly in the middle. Heavy traffic is discouraged by interesting one way streets near the "entrances" of the neighborhood.
It's close to the 5 and 22 freeway entrances, close to the Bowers Museum (which is great for kids) and a few good shops and restaurants within walking distance. If you want to drive or take the bus (the transit center is also very close by) Santa Ana has been working to redevelop itself nd as a result you have new places like Mother's Market and the art district right up against the historical civic areas and bargain shopping. Santa Ana ia a big city so there is something for everyone, I personally like the abundance of 24 hour taquerias. You've also got the Mainplace mall, the Block, Disneyland and the world famous St. Joesephs/CHOC hospital.
Many of the neighborhoods around the area are not as nice but Floral Park has a reputation for being something of a enclave, striving to keep up neighborhood standards and preserve the historical nature of the area. While it's a matter of opinion, the neighborhood has gotten many accolades and has been voted #1 OC neighborhood in recent years. There is a lot to read about the area in your local OC library and on the web. Definitely a place to visit or walk around if you live in Orange county.
