"Hardly a passive experience"
I used to take my kids to the Adventure Science Center out here back when we still called it a science “museum.” The new name describes it better, because the place is decidedly interactive. I quickly learned the secrets of a good Science Center trip: 1) Get plenty of sleep the night before. 2) Pack a lunch and plan to stay a while. 3) Wear clothes that will let you climb and crawl with the kids.
_Interactive_ is a good word for the other attractions here, as well. Of course one expects to do a lot of walking and exploring at Fort Negley Park, but a Nashville Sounds game is hardly a passive experience. With their Family Nights and other special theme nights, this feeder team for the Milwaukee Brewers keeps baseball interactive and fun.
It’s been a while since I’ve been out here, but I’m not recalling any places to live in the Fort Negley area. With attractions like these, though, you’ll want to get out here eventually. (I know I’m looking forward to the day when I can take Offspring #3 out to continue the family tradition!)
The bus will get you there, sort of. Route #1 goes past the Science Center and Fort Negley on weekday mornings and evenings. The #25 goes past Greer Stadium, and the #12 runs down 4th Avenue.

"Historic Area of Nashville, Tennessee"
There is a large number of history buffs in the area of Nashville who love to experience the Fort Negley region of Nashville. The Fort Negley region was once a Civil War fort that a number of students will visit each year when learning about the Civil War in school.
Fort Negley is close to the Adventure Science Museum which you will want to visit with your kids on a rainy day in Spring or Fall. The science museum offers hands on activities for children of all ages. If you have a child who is into baseball, then you will not want to miss out on a game of ball at the Greer Stadium which is home to the Nashville Sounds baseball team.
The area around Fort Negley is more business population than it is home settings. The area is quite busy with stores and businesses such as warehouses and such than it is for homes in which you would be interested in purchasing or renting.
There are a number of schools in the area as well as parks that you can visit with the kids during the day throughout the year. Living in Nashville is one perk for those who love music and want to become a musician and for those of are interested in history as well. There are a number of different areas throughout the Nashville region that hold history such as the capital building and Bicentennial Mall and Centennial Park. Fort Negley is just one of those places that hold interest in those who are looking to learn more about events that have taken place in Nashville, Tennessee.

"Great for history buffs"
What you can learn about your own city. I have lived here a long time and have never taken the time to really explore Fort Negley, a Civil War fort. I only see the ruined entranceway when I go to the Sounds baseball stadium next door or the Adventure Science Center, also next to it. Only when I started writing this review did I know that there is a whole visitors center and more that is out of sight. I must do a staycation in my own city and go explore!
This is not really a neighborhood, just a business type district. In addition to the places named above, it is also close to the W.O. Smith/Nashville Community School, which offers quality musical instruction to children from low income families for 50 cents a lesson. Very cool!
It is also not far from the Cannery and 3rd and Lindsley restaurants and bars and Flyte restaurant.
