"Always sought after, Pill Hill and Historic Southwest Rochester"
Historic Southwest Rochester is the area of town that is located between the downtown Mayo Clinic Campus and the St. Mary's Hospital Campus. It consists of several historical homes dating back to the early 1900's as well as several more that were built up until the 1950's. "Pill Hill" got it's nickname because back in the 1930's when the Mayo Clinic was starting to grow, several of the doctors lived there. There are still several Mayo Physicians and other Mayo employees who live in the neighborhood because of the ultimate proximity to downtown and to all of Mayo's Rochester campuses. There are some famous homes that are on the Historical Register including The Mayo Foundation House which was once home to Dr. William J. Mayo and The Plummer House which was once the home to Dr. Henry Stanley Plummer and Daisy Berkman Plummer.
