"The Park Next to the Park"

In the Central Northeast section of Philadelphia lies Lexington Park. This quaint little neighborhood is one of few in the Northeast that is still predominantly white. Its borders consist of Roosevelt Boulevard to the west, Holme Avenue to the north and Pennypack Park to the east and south.

The homes in the area consist of twin and single-family houses, most of which were built after World War II. These homes generally have 3 bedrooms. There are a few apartment buildings and condominiums in the vicinity as well. The average home sale price is $260,000.

Nazareth Hospital is the medical facility in the area. There are also eye doctors, dentists and chiropractors in the vicinity along Rhawn Street. Rhawn Street is also the location for Lexington Park's commercial district, as well as Roosevelt Boulevard. The Roosevelt Mall is not far down the road either.

There is public transportation in Lexington Park in the form of several bus routes. One in which goes to Fern Rock Tansportation Center which is where you can catch the Broad Street Subway into the city. Another route goes to the Frankford Terminal which connects to the Market-Frankford Line, which will also lead into downtown Center City. Aside from these public transport options, Lexington Park is right against Roosevelt Boulevard, which will lead you into Center City in about 20 minutes, depending on the traffic.

Lexington Park is a very calming area and doesn't disappoint having the 'park' attached to its name. Pennypack Park surrounds half of the neighborhood. Just like the park that it sits beside, Lexington is quiet and serene and well worth moving into.

"Lexington Park - Spacious, Gracious Living"

Lexington Park is one of Northeast Philadelphia’s bastions of civility. With a middle class population of second and third generation immigrants, it prides itself on twin and single family homes. The streets are tree lined with numerous lawns and flowers beds gracing the homes. Its boundaries include Roosevelt Blvd, Hartell Park, and Fairmount Park. On the northeast border lies Nazareth Hospital.

Close to the Northeast Philadelphia Airport, it is nestled into a remote section that is not well serviced by public transportation.

One claim to fame is the childhood home of Sylvester Stallone for the Rocky film series fame. On a trip to Philadelphia, Sylvester and his brother Frank returned to the old neighborhood for a visit. It is primarily a Caucasian neighborhood with other nationalities in the single-digit range.

Abraham Lincoln High School and Father Judge High School service the area. The James Ramp Memorial Park is nearby featuring a wide array of winter and summer sports. In the late 1970s, James Ramp was the police officer shot by the MOVE organization in a raid on their compound in the Powelton Village section of the city.

Home values in recent years have declined from a high of $195,000 in 2007 to the present value of $170,000, some 15 percent. Many homes have four or more bedrooms with some ranging up to 7 bedrooms.

"Rocky lived here but he doesnt like to talk about it"

Sometimes the word “park” in a neighborhood name can be misleading as it makes the place sound like it may automatically be nice. In the case of Lexington Park it’s not that far from the truth. The middle-class neighborhood is actually pretty nice.

Located in the northeast portion of Philadelphia Lexington Park is an attractive neighborhood to those looking for a pleasant place to raise their family. Consistent primarily of twin and single houses, Lexington Park used to be home to Sylvester Stallone, though he claims to have grown up in Mayfair. It’s speculated that he says this become Mayfair is a “blue collar” neighborhood while Lexington Park is a more of a “white collar” community, which doesn’t really fit the “Rocky” reputation.

Another attractive point about Lexington Park is that it is close to Pennypack Park, which is 1,600 acres of woodlands and wetlands. It also has playgrounds and trails for hiking and biking. It’s a great place to visit for young couples and families with children.

Lexington Park is considered a safe, low crime area. Most of the homes are owned by the people who live in them and are well maintained. It does however lack in diversity, a majority of the residents in Lexington Park are white.
